Northwest Focus Live celebrates exceptional classical artists with ties to the Pacific Northwest, and this week features the Maple Quartet, silver medalists of the 2025 Frances Walton Competition. Performing from the Classical KING studios, the ensemble presents music by Haydn, Beethoven, and contemporary composer Rune Tonsgaard Sørensen, blending cornerstone string quartet repertoire with modern works written for today’s audiences. Formed at the Eastman School of Music, the quartet has quickly earned recognition through national chamber music competitions and performances across the country.

Wayward Music Series | Trillium String Quartet: Crossing Paths

Explore contemporary chamber music shaped by collaboration, mentorship, and shared artistic experiences as the Trillium String Quartet presents Crossing Paths. Featuring works by Caroline Shaw, Jessie Montgomery, Gabriella Smith, and Seattle composer Aidan Gold, the program highlights composers connected to the ensemble through performance, teaching, and community engagement. Presented as part of the Wayward Music Series, this concert brings modern string quartet music into one of Seattle’s longtime creative spaces, with a focus on accessible and adventurous live performance.

Seattle Classic Guitar Society: Mark H. Wilson & Dieter Hennings Yeomans Guitar Duo

Spend a free afternoon with contemporary guitar music inspired by travel, culture, and storytelling as Mark H. Wilson and Dieter Hennings Yeomans perform works by Eduardo Martin, Enrico Chapela Barba, and Leo Brouwer. Presented by the Seattle Classic Guitar Society, the program explores themes of cultural exchange through music written for classical guitar duo, blending rhythmic energy, lyrical writing, and modern perspectives in the intimate setting of the Chapel at the Good Shepherd Center.

Tacoma Refugee Choir Spring Concert: We Will Dance

Music, storytelling, and cultural traditions come together as the Tacoma Refugee Choir presents We Will Dance, a celebration centered on resilience, connection, and community. Featuring the Tacoma Refugee Choir alongside guest artists including Tumbarrancho Venezuela, the program invites audiences to participate through singing, movement, and shared experience while highlighting traditions and stories carried by members of the choir’s diverse community. This community event reflects the choir’s mission of building belonging and cultural connection through music.

Orquesta Northwest: A Celebration of Community

Music, dance, and cultural traditions come together as Orquesta Northwest presents A Celebration of Community, an afternoon highlighting connections between Mexico, Spain, and the Pacific Northwest. Featuring the Ballard Civic Orchestra alongside youth and community performers, the program blends classical, mariachi, and flamenco influences in a collaborative celebration of shared cultural heritage. Presented at Town Hall Seattle, the event also includes a pre-concert cultural fair beginning at 1pm, creating a vibrant community gathering centered on music, culture, and connection.

Northwest Girlchoir: Who We Are

Northwest Girlchoir closes its season with Who We Are, a program centered on identity, belonging, and community through choral music. Bringing together all Northwest Girlchoir ensembles, the concert features music inspired by the experiences, values, and aspirations of its singers, exploring themes of self-expression, growth, and connection. Through ensemble performance and shared storytelling, the program reflects the organization’s commitment to creativity, inclusion, and empowering young voices through music.

X Marks the Spot

The lure of finding treasure always gleams bright in film. And what better way to hunt down hidden hoards than with a map? Edmund Stone maps his way to all kinds of hidden hoards. Use the Marauder’s Map at Hogwarts in the Prisoner of Azkaban. Find pirate treasure with The Goonies. Discover the way to Dry Land with the mysterious map in Water World. This Saturday on The Score, it’s “X Marks the Spot.” 

Must-See List, Part 2: Groundbreakers and Industry Changers

Sunday, May 31 | 4pm  

The Score is celebrating 20 years of great entertainment with a musical library of “Must-See Movies”. This Sunday, Part Two features groundbreakers and industry changers – what makes them great, how they changed cinema as we know it and of course, their fantastic music. Join Edmund Stone for a look back at amazing films such as The Godfather, the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Toy Story and more. 


Metropolitan Opera 

Gabriela Lena Frank: El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego

Saturday, May 30 | 10am [LIVE] 

Composer Gabriela Lena Frank makes her Metropolitan Opera debut with El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego, a new opera inspired by the lives of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera. Set during the Day of the Dead, the story imagines Frida returning from the underworld to reunite with Diego one final time, blending mythology, memory, and magical realism. Drawing from Mexican musical traditions alongside contemporary orchestral writing, the opera creates a vivid world shaped by the artists’ lives and imagery. Isabel Leonard stars as Frida alongside Carlos Álvarez as Diego in this live Metropolitan Opera broadcast conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin.
