On-Air Highlights

Northwest Focus Live 

Date: Friday, February 7, 2025, 7pm

This week’s Northwest Focus Live is really living up to its name, with a showcase of two talented young musicians, fresh off their first year of conservatory. Pianist August Baik and cellist Eric Schindler join host Sean MacLean in this rebroadcast from last August, and you can find video footage from their visit by visiting Classical KING’s YouTube channel. Catch their performance this Friday at 7pm. 

Seattle Symphony: Mozart Jupiter

Date: Friday, February 7, 2025, 8pm

This week’s broadcast concert brings the soul of the trumpet front and center. It’s the Seattle Symphony’s October concert, featuring trumpeter Tine Thing Helseth on not just 1, but 2 trumpet concertos, as well as not just 1, but TWO Mozart Symphonies. Dave Beck is your host for this week’s broadcast concert at 8pm following Northwest Focus Live. 

Metropolitan Opera

Wagner: Der Fliegende Hollander – Artist’s Choice

Date: Saturday, February 8, 2025, 10am

Wagner’s earliest operatic creation comes to the MET opera stage where the natural and supernatural clash in The Flying Dutchman. Hear it on Classical KING this Saturday at 10am.

The Score with Edmund Stone

Date: Saturday, February 8, 2025, 4pm

Hollywood isn’t the real world but there are real-life couples in Cinema-land that have chemistry both on and off screen. This Saturday on The Score Edmund Stone takes a look at films and their music featuring real life partners (past and present) including Shakespeare in Love, To Have and Have Not, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and more. It’s Love, Hollywood Style this Saturday on The Score. 

Date: Sunday, February 9, 2025, 4pm

This Sunday on The Score Edmund Stone brings a bouquet of beautiful music from some of cinema’s all-time great romantic films. From Romeo and Juliet, to When Harry Met Sally, The Notebook and more, it’s the sounds of Great Romances this Valentine season. 

Second Inversion: Pamela Z 

Date: Saturday, February 8, 2025, 9pm

“Hey, what’s on TV tonight?” might not sound like the start to a riveting conversation—but Pamela Z is a very good listener. She finds the music in everyday speech. And this Saturday on Second Inversion, she invites you to discover it too!

Seattle Pro Musica: Pairings – Stories & Songs

Date: Saturday, February 8, 2025, 7pm

Location: The Chapel at the Good Shepherd Center

What’s your favorite pairing? Is it chips and salsa, wine and cheese, or coffee and a pastry? For Seattle Pro Musica, it’s Stories & Songs, and that’s the theme of their upcoming performance where you’ll experience an intimate experience of love stories and songs, just in time for Valentine’s Day.

Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center: Spanish Journey 

Date: Friday, February 7, 2025, 8pm in Seattle

Location: 415 Westlake in Seattle

Date: Saturday, February 8, 2025, 7:30pm in Olympia

Location:  Minnaert Center for the Arts in Olympia

New York’s Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center returns to Emerald City Music with a vibrant celebration of Spanish Music. Grammy-winning guitarist Jason Vieaux joins ECM to bring the music of Isaac Albeniz, Pablo de Sarasate, Joaquin Rodrigo, and more. 

Olympia Symphony Orchestra: Beethoven VS Gulda

Date: Saturday, February 8, 2025, 3pm

Location: Washington Center for the Performing Arts in Olympia

The Olympia Symphony is getting in the spirit of the Big Game with an exciting musical matchup: Beethoven vs. Gulda! Featuring cellist Nathan Chan, the concert pits the classic elegance of Beethoven against the dynamic flair of Gulda in a performance that showcases tradition and innovation.
